Ladies and gentlemen,
We at the Witness Times are right now contemplating about a seemingly new species of Communism supporters. As you might already know, India is a country known for its very ‘strong’ Communist party.
These ‘communists’ try to enforce (not follow, enforce) the teachings (or what they think are the teachings) of Karl Marx. Of course, in this struggle, the core values are often distorted, and frequently giving way to the evils which the party advocates against, like corruption and bureaucracy.
The Communist party is quite strong in the states of Kerala and West Bengal. This anti-development, anti-change, anti-Congress, anti-BJP, anti-globalisation, pseudo-anti-computerisation, anti-liberalisation, anti-religion, anti-research, pro-equality party consists of the rich and the poor. The poor, who whole heartedly believe in the party’s ideals, spend their heart and soul and money for the welfare of it. The rich, who don’t give a damn, get richer by stealing out of the party’s coffers. Interestingly, they make ‘corruption’ look like the party is giving money to them for their dedication, rather than them taking an active interest in the ‘donation’. And ironically, the poor end up poorer, and the rich end up richer.

Well, thats the traditional model anyway. And the people who support the party comes from all spheres-the poor, the middle class and the rich. They are mostly hard-working, honest, intellectual, naive people who take a genuine interest in the country, and believe foolhardily in the party’s ideals and capacity to change the world. Taking the country’s and the party’s best interests, they try to lead a basic, honest, hardworking life, without much luxury or fantasy. They cut down on the expenses, pay their taxes, and raise their voice blindly for anything the party sees fit. They’re seen working for the poor, by seemingly welfare initiatives initiated by the party. They have intellectual discussions, while also working for the benefit of the poor. They have no out-worldly dreams or ambitions, and their expenditure borders along the bare minimum.
But lo behold, our generalisations were proved wrong!
In our travails, we came across a breed of the much adored and respected communists, which did not exactly fit into the traditional description of the breed. This species was a die-hard believer of the party, its ideals, Karl Marx, and his ideals. The individual we saw was very much into the party. Indeed, it had been in his family for a couple of generations now. But the only description he fit into of a communist was his anti-development, pro-communist, anti-religion and pro-whatever-the-politburo-thinks-is-right attitude.
Every day, he spent like there was no tomorrow. He did not work, he was a student like the rest of us. He drained the money his father brought in. He revelled in alcohol, and spent about Rs 700 ($18 USD / 11 Euros) daily, and often more, in his revellings. He splashed away money for everything and anything. He bribed. He paid his bills late, with fines, for he was lazy to go all the way. He bought too much, and wasted most of it.
He was too lazy to wash his clothes. So he just discarded them, and bought new ones. Same with handkerchiefs, socks, and underwear. And yes, he changed shoes once a month, for he was too lazy to polish them.
He believed that everything he said was right. There was no word against, or above, his. He didn’t give a damn for the poor, or the world. He didn’t even spend a joule of energy to help the poor. He did nothing to help the world, but talk. Talk about how Marx was the only way. Talk about how less liberal spending, and passionate work for the poor could save the world. He talked about communism in a way that might have put the best Christian missionaries back in the 1700′s to shame!
Unlike other communists, he was well read about Marx, and a perfectly logical and intellectual person. But like other communists, he didn’t give a damn whether the Politburo’s decision was right or wrong, and confidently, blindly believed in whatever the party said, did, or advocated. (of course, this sole quality is enough to brand him a true Indian communist…)
But then, this new breed of Communists is awe consuming. Hypocritical, lazy, and selfish to the first order, this individual seems to be explicitly exemplifying the consequence of foolhardy communism prevalant in our nation.
Interesting eh? We at WT are wondering what the future of this cult party is going to be after a few years, with followers like the specimen we found. Perhaps the Politburo should examine this specimen, and research on what are the root causes of this mutation. But again, they’re anti-development, so they can’t research…
